Perenco Congo has confirmed a major investment project with the construction of a new offshore platform, Kombi 2. Kombi 2 is currently under construction at the Nieuwdorp shipyard (Netherlands) by Dixstone, a sister company of Perenco, which provides integrated solutions for the oil and gas industry.
Perenco T&T has discovered “significant” gas reserves at the Onyx field offshore Trinidad and Tobago, the company said on Thursday.
The find was made through successful drilling of a well and sidetrack in the eastern portion of the Onyx field, located in 55 metres of water between the Poui and Teak fields.
Perenco has announced a successful drilling operation for its Onyx well, encountering significant columns of natural gas in two separate geological compartments. The Onyx field is an undeveloped gas discovery located within the TSP license, offshore Trinidad.
Perenco CEO Armel Simondin said, “This test has met our expectations, both in terms of technical execution and the quality of data gathered. These insights are instrumental as we move to the next phase of developing the Poseidon Project. The successful test highlights the role our industry can play in the UK’s decarbonization efforts. The Perenco CCS team and our joint venture partners are now fully focused on interpreting the results and converting new insights into an evidence-based development plan for Project Poseidon”.
Muanda International Oil Company (MIOC), Perenco’s offshore DRC subsidiary, has made an oil discovery during its drilling campaign off the coast of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which is said to be the first offshore exploration success in the African country in nearly three decades.
