JERA Co Inc has taken delivery of its first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the Barossa Gas Project in Australia’s Northern Territory.
Japan’s JERA has signed a 27-year sales and purchase agreement with QatarEnergy under which the Qatari company will supply 3 million tonnes per year of LNG starting in 2028, JERA announced on Saturday.
Montenegrin Energy and Mining Minister Admir Sahmanovic commented, “The planned feasibility study will provide us with concrete data on potential locations and the viability of liquefied natural gas development in Montenegro, thereby creating the basis for making strategic decisions in the interest of our country’s energy security and sustainable development”.
The developer of the Alaska LNG project, Glenfarne, has been busy in the past months finding companies willing to make offtake commitments for the $44-billion project that is being actively promoted by the Trump administration. The company is yet to make a final investment decision on Alaska LNG but plans to make one for the facility’s pipeline by the end of the year, and another for its export terminal in 2026.
Cheniere Energy, Inc. subsidiary Cheniere Marketing LLC has entered into a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) sale and purchase agreement with JERA Co. Inc.
Under the terms of the deal, JERA will purchase the gas on a free-on-board basis at a price indexed to Henry Hub, and will pay a fixed liquefaction fee. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2029 and are expected to continue until 2050.
Of the 81 million tons of LNG that Australia exported last year, as much as 40% went to Japan. But Australia’s east coast has been suffering tight gas supply, which has become a hot political topic, with parties running in the latest elections, earlier this year, all prioritizing supply security for Australians in the east.
By promoting the integration of power and telecommunications (watt-bit collaboration), the companies aim to accelerate the development of DCs that are crucial for upgrading Japan’s industrial structure, thereby helping to address the country’s “digital deficit”, make efficient use of power infrastructure, contribute to decarbonization, and enhance Japan’s industrial competitiveness, JERA said.
The UAE’s ADNOC Gas has signed an agreement under which it will supply LNG to energy trading company JERA Global Markets for a period of three years, ADNOC Gas announced on Monday.
