Shearwater wins large 3D-seismic contract off Suriname

Shearwater GeoServices has won a contract to provide a large 3D-seismic survey for client Petronas offshore Suriname, the Norwegian player said on Wednesday.

The project will cover 6,000 square kilometres. The location of the survey was not specified.

Shearwater’s Amazon Warrior seismic vessel has been allocated to the three-month project, commencing in Q4 2024.

The geoservices company previously provided 3D-seismic acquisition for Petronas in Suriname’s Block 52.

“High-quality seismic data is a key enabler for unlocking the vast resource potential of the prolific Suriname-Guyana basin and accelerating exploration activities,” Shearwater CEO Irene Waage Basili said.

“Shearwater’s state-of-the-art technology and capabilities enable safe and efficient acquisition of exploration seismic data with the highest quality for our clients, supporting their ambitions in this exciting area.”

Oil and gas investment hotspot Suriname last made headlines when TotalEnergies reached an FID on its USD 10.5-billion GranMorgu project.
