QatarEnergy farms into Chevron block in Namibia

QatarEnergy has agreed with Harmattan Energy Limited (HEL), an indirect subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, to acquire a working interest in Block 2813B offshore Namibia, QatarEnergy announced on Sunday.

Block 2813B is located approximately 200 kilometres offshore Namibia and covers an area of 5,433 square kilometres in water depths between 2,400-3,300 metres.

Under the agreement, QatarEnergy will acquire a 27.5% stake in the block and HEL will keep a 52.5% interest. Trago Energy Limited and the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia are the block’s other partners, each with 10%.

This is the third Namibian block where QatarEnergy has taken up ownership interest. In November 2024, the company upped its participation in Block 2913B – home to the 2022 Venus discovery – and Block 2912, both operated by TotalEnergies.

“This agreement demonstrates our commitment to continue expanding our upstream footprint in Namibia, and the strengthening of our partnership with our valued partner Chevron. Following successful drilling operations in our other acreage in Namibia, we look forward to soon begin drilling the first exploration well on this block,” said Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and president and CEO of QatarEnergy.
