KBR has been awarded engineering contracts by Singapore’s Seatrium Group to develop topsides facilities for two new FPSO units which will be deployed at Petrobras’s Atapu and Sepia fields in the Santos Basin, Brazil, KBR announced on Thursday.
KBR will provide Seatrium with engineering services and technical engineering procurement support for the topsides of the P-84 and P-85 FPSOs, which are part of Petrobras’ new generation of energy-efficient FPSO platforms. Each will be capable of producing 225,000 bopd and compressing, treating and re-injecting 10 mcm (353.2 mcf) of gas per day.
The FPSOs will also integrate technologies to reduce environmental impact and greenhouse gas emissions, including zero routine flaring and venting, variable speed drives and CO2 capture measures. The value of the contract was not disclosed.
“KBR will ensure that these units are developed with a strong focus on enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability, thereby contributing to the industry’s transition toward a more sustainable future,” said Jay Ibrahim, KBR’s president of sustainable technology solutions.
Seatrium won Petrobras’s international tender for the newbuild supply of FPSO platforms P-84 and P-85 in May 2024 in a contract valued at approximately USD 8 billion. Construction of the units is scheduled to commence in Q1 2025 with final delivery expected in 2029.
