Abraj secures BP rig contract in Oman’s Block 61

Oil and gas E&P services provider Abraj Energy Services has secured a contract from BP Exploration (Epsilon) for an onshore drilling unit to be deployed in Block 61 in Oman, Abraj announced on Sunday.

In a disclosure to the Muscat Stock Exchange, Abraj said it had been engaged to provide an onshore drilling rig for a term of three years, renewable for an additional two years. Abraj’s expected revenue from the contract is around USD 36.4 million.

The rig had been stacked since the expiration of its previous contract, also with BP Exploration. Operations are expected to commence in Q4 2025.

Block 61 is one of Oman’s largest gas blocks. It is home to the Khazzan and Ghazeer gasfields and accounts for about a third of the country’s natural gas production. The block is operated by BP with a 40% interest, with partners OQEP (30%), PTTEP (20%) and Petronas (10%).
