Chevron has shut in production at its Petronius facility in the U.S. Gulf and evacuated all associated personnel to shore as Tropical Storm Bertha approaches the northern Gulf Coast.
The company said production from its other operated Gulf of America assets remains at normal levels. Chevron has also transported nonessential personnel from its Tubular Bells and Blind Faith platforms while implementing storm preparedness procedures at its onshore facilities.
“We remain focused on the safety of our workforce, the integrity of our facilities and the protection of the environment,” the company said in a statement Monday, adding that it will continue to closely monitor the storm’s track.
The National Hurricane Center expects Tropical Storm Bertha to move near or along the northern Gulf Coast over the coming days, bringing heavy rainfall, storm surge and strong winds across portions of the U.S. Gulf Coast.
The Gulf of America accounts for approximately 13% of U.S. crude oil production and roughly half of the nation’s refining capacity, making tropical systems a closely watched risk for offshore operations and energy infrastructure.
