Velesto Energy Bhd. (Velesto) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Petroliam Nasional Bhd. (Petronas) and National Oilwell Varco L.P. (NOV) to implement rig mechanized automation processes and integrate robotics into drilling operations.

Valesto said in a media release the MOU had been signed by Valesto Drilling and Petronas’ Malaysia Petroleum Management. The MOU seeks to create a joint framework that uses NOV’s drilling automation system and other energy carbon optimization solutions, including robotics technology, on rigs operated by Velesto, to improve operational performance and safety.

This partnership also aims to enhance and optimize the efficiency of drilling operations in Malaysia, decrease emissions, and achieve cost effectiveness through the use of advanced automation and digitalization technologies as essential facilitators, Valesto said.

According to the MoU, Petronas will offer direction and operational support for the implementation of this technology to guarantee that the deployment of NOVOS and Robotics is in line with its strategic objectives. Velesto will manage the integration and enhancement of these systems on its drilling rigs, whereas NOV will deliver technical assistance and training for local execution and knowledge transfer.

The three companies aim to enhance sustainable operational efficiency and develop local capability in the energy sector. The initiative also seeks to drive technology adoption and equip local talent with the skills needed to support the future growth of the industry.
