TotalEnergies and Oil India have agreed to collaborate on methane emissions detection and measurement campaigns in India, the French energy giant said on Tuesday. The agreement was signed at COP29, taking place this week in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The partners will deploy TotalEnergies’ pioneering Airborne Ultralight Spectrometer for Environmental Applications (AUSEA) gas analysis technology at Oil India sites. The drone-mounted AUSEA is a dual sensor capable of detecting methane and carbon dioxide emissions while at the same time identifying their source.
The technology allows access to hard-to-reach emissions points on all types of industrial facilities, both onshore and offshore.
In September, Oil India joined the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC), an initiative co-chaired by TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné. OGDC signatories commit to working towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Under the charter’s principle of sharing good practices, TotalEnergies makes the AUSEA technology available to other participating operators.
