TotalEnergies and Aljomaih Energy and Water Company have won a contract to build a 300-MW solar plant in Saudi Arabia, the French energy giant announced on Tuesday.
The Rabigh 2 solar project was awarded in the fifth round of the Ministry of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Program, which envisions the country’s power generation coming 50-50 from gas and renewables by 2030.
The TotalEnergies-Aljomaih consortium signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Saudi Power Procurement Company for the project, which they expect to connect to the grid in 2026.
The announcement came as French President Emmanuel Macron conducts a three-day state visit to Riyadh, where he is meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and other top officials.
It also coincides with TotalEnergies celebrating 50 years of activity in the country.
“Saudi Arabia is emblematic of our multi-energy strategy aimed at supporting the energy transition of oil and gas producing countries,” chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné said in comments on the anniversary.
“Our activities to produce low-carbon and renewable energies contribute to the country’s Green Initiative and Vision 2030’s objectives.”
Also on Tuesday, TotalEnergies signed an agreement with Saudi Aramco and Saudi Investment Recycling Company to assess the development of a sustainable aviation fuel production unit in the country.
