Terra Drone signs drone technology MoU with Aramco

Japan’s Terra Drone has signed an MoU with Saudi Aramco to develop innovative drone, robotics and AI-driven solutions for the oil and gas sector, the company said on Thursday.

The partnership aims to enhance safety and operational efficiency while supporting Saudi Arabia’s localisation efforts. The MoU establishes a framework for collaboration in research and development, technology piloting, and workforce training, aligning with the country’s broader economic goals.

“The MoU reflects our commitment to driving innovation and supporting localisation in line with the vision of Aramco. Through our group company, Terra Drone Arabia, we aim to introduce cutting-edge drone technologies that not only enhance safety and efficiency but also empower the local workforce. By fostering collaboration and investing in R&D, we are building a foundation for sustainable growth and technological advancement in the Kingdom,” Terra Drone CEO Toru Tokushige said.

Terra Drone received funding from Wa’ed Ventures in 2023, enabling the establishment of Terra Drone Arabia, which focuses on localising services, setting up R&D and production facilities, and creating jobs for Saudi professionals. The new partnership with Aramco is expected to strengthen this localisation strategy and expand drone applications across the energy industry.

The MoU reflects Terra Drone’s long-term vision of transferring knowledge, developing local talent and fostering a globally competitive drone industry in Saudi Arabia.

The company has completed more than 3,000 projects worldwide and has recently expanded its presence in the advanced air mobility and unmanned traffic management sectors.
