TAQA Arabia, TPDC, Africa50 Ink Gas Sales Deal for Tanzania’s First Small‑Scale LNG Project

TAQA Arabia, through its subsidiary Rosetta Energy Solutions, Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), and Africa50, a pan‑African infrastructure investment platform, have signed a Gas Sales Agreement (GSA) for East Africa LNG (EALNG), the venture developing Tanzania’s first small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility.

The partners plan to invest in, develop, and operate the facility to supply Tanzania’s industrial, residential, and transport sectors, as well as customers outside the existing gas pipeline network. The commercial operations are targeted for 2027.

TPDC will be both gas supplier and an equity partner in the facility, which will liquefy locally produced natural gas to be transported by dedicated vehicles, helping expand access to domestic gas resources and reduce reliance on higher-cost, more carbon-intensive fuels.

Karim Shaaban, Managing Director of Rosetta Energy Solutions, said the GSA marks an important step towards FID and a key milestone in the company’s scalable LNG growth strategy in Tanzania. “We intend to grow capacity as we enable and develop the market, reflecting TAQA Arabia Group’s long‑term commitment to Tanzania and its energy future,” he noted

Pakinam Kafafi, CEO of TAQA Arabia, added: “This project will turn Tanzania’s abundant gas resources into reliable energy for industry, communities and transport, strengthening energy security and accelerating industrialisation.”

This is not TAQA Arabia’s first move in Tanzania. In September 2025, TAQA Arabia’s board reviewed potential investments in LNG projects in Tanzania alongside developments at the Zafarana solar energy project in Egypt.

“Africa has significant gas resources, but unlocking their economic value requires the infrastructure to connect those resources to where energy is needed most.  This project in Tanzania is an important first step, expanding the productive use of domestic gas while laying the foundation for larger investments that can support industrial growth and economic development,” Nabil Saimi, Senior Investment Director, Africa50, said.
