Shell Energy North America (SENA) has agreed to acquire 169 MW of natural gas-fired generation capacity in Pennsylvania while selling its interests in RISEC Holdings LLC to Constellation Energy Generation for $715 million. Amazon is partnering with Talen Energy, a former power utility-turned-nuclear innovator, which will supply the cloud giant with electricity from its Susquehanna nuclear power station, located in Luzerne County. Talen previously spun off its nuclear arm into Cumulus Data, which is developing a 475 MW data center campus adjacent to the power plant. That infrastructure will now be part of Amazon’s AI backbone.
“By the end of 1859 wells sprouted throughout the oil country,” writes the American Chemical Society (ACS). “In 1860 wells in northwestern Pennsylvania produced several hundred thousand barrels and by 1862 production reached three million barrels. The nation’s oil bonanza had begun, and huge fortunes would soon be made.”
