Cuba has increasingly been falling into an energy crisis, which has plunged its citizens into darkness with uncertainty over the future of the country’s energy security. The most recent crisis commenced on the 17th of October when non-essential workers were ordered to go home to help reduce the demand for power. However, this attempt failed and one of Cuba’s main power stations, Antonio Guiteras, shut down, alongside several other facilities.
Russia and Cuba have discussed the idea of building an oil refinery in Cuba with the help of Russian companies, the deputy speaker of the Russian parliament was quoted as saying.
During a visit of Russian lawmakers to Cuba in recent days, the idea of a refinery construction has been discussed, Russia’s TASS news agency quoted deputy speaker Alexander Babakov as saying.
A delegation of the Central Union of Cuban Workers (CTC), led by its Secretary General Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, had working sessions with the Vietnam National Union of Oil and Gas Workers and the Russia-Vietnam oil and gas joint venture Vietsovpetro in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on July 1.
