Subsea7 secures $1.25-billion-plus Petrobras contract

Subsea7 has won a competitive tender and secured a “super-major” contract from Petrobras for the development of the Buzios 11 offshore field in Brazil, Subsea7 announced on Friday.

Under the terms of the engagement, Subsea7 will provide engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation and pre-commissioning of 112 kilometres of rigid risers and flowlines. The value of the business was not disclosed, but Subsea7 defines “super-major” contracts as being worth more than USD 1.25 billion.

“This award again underscores Subsea7’s proven expertise in delivering complex, world-scale-sized projects, reinforcing our strong execution capabilities and commitment to operational excellence and safety,” said Yann Cottart, Subsea7’s senior vice-president of Brazil and Global Projects Centre West.

Subsea7 secured a similar contract from Petrobras for the Buzios 9 field in September 2024.

With an estimated 11.3 billion boe of recoverable resources, Buzios is one of the world’s largest deepwater fields. It is located 180 kilometres off the coast of Rio de Janeiro in water depths of more than 2,000 metres.

Subsea7 noted that project management and engineering will be conducted at its offices in Rio de Janeiro, Suresnes and Sutton, while the pipelines will be fabricated at the company’s spoolbase in Brazil. Offshore activities are scheduled to take place in 2027 and 2028.
