Springfield E&P Secures Major Offshore Drilling Deal to Bolster Ghana’s Oil Production

Springfield Exploration & Production (Springfield E&P), an independent African oil company, has announced the signing of a landmark deal with Northern Ocean Limited (NOL) to contract the Deepsea Bollsta rig. This agreement will lead the appraisal of the Afina-1x well in Ghana’s offshore block WCTP-2, in partnership with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and its subsidiary, GNPC Explorco.

This strategic initiative comes after the July 8th ruling by the International Court of Arbitration, which called for further work to complete the unitization of the Afina and Sankofa fields. Following this ruling, Springfield has moved swiftly to secure the necessary resources, with the well test on the Afina-1x well scheduled to commence in October.

Kevin Okyere, CEO of Springfield E&P, shared his optimism for the initiative, stating, “I am hoping that our tenacity and persistence will inspire Ghanaians and the youth across Africa to know that they can all dare to dream and achieve anything they want.”

Springfield’s rapid mobilization of technical resources and partnerships underscores its commitment to advancing Ghana’s oil production. The success of this campaign will make Springfield the first independent African company to produce oil from deep water, a historic milestone for the country and the continent.

“Together with GNPC and GNPC Explorco, we are excited to work with Northern Ocean on this historic drilling campaign as the first independent African company to operate in deep water,” Okyere added. “Northern Ocean’s impressive track record, efficiency, and expertise make them the ideal choice for Springfield as together, we have managed to plan and execute this drilling campaign in the shortest possible time, which will be unprecedented.”

Supporting the project, other blue-chip service companies, both local and international, have been contracted to provide services related to the upcoming operations. This collaboration highlights the scale and importance of this drilling campaign for Ghana’s oil sector and the potential economic benefits for all stakeholders involved.

Arne Jacobsen, CEO of Northern Ocean Limited, commented, “We are excited to announce this strategic alliance agreement with Springfield, which is an important step in the company’s plan to build a solid order backlog. In addition, this alliance creates the foundation for NOL and Springfield to work as partners to deliver first-in-class operation with our tier 1 HE rigs. Springfield is an important operator in Ghana, and we are eager to build a long-term relationship with this esteemed company.”
