Shearwater wins “large” seismic contract offshore India

Norwegian marine geoscience specialist Shearwater Geoservices has been selected by state-owned Oil India for a 2D towed streamer seismic survey in the Bay of Bengal, Shearwater announced on Tuesday.

The survey is scheduled to commence early in 2025 and last around five months. It will cover approximately 14,500 line kilometres off India’s east coast as part of India’s National Seismic Program, which aims to appraise the country’s onshore and offshore sedimentary basins as a base for future oil exploration and production activities.

“This contract marks the second NSP survey, and third towed streamer project awarded to Shearwater for this season in India, emphasising our strong position in the Asia Pacific region,” said Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater.

The value of the engagement was not disclosed in the announcement, but Shearwater described the contract as “large.”
