Singapore’s Seatrium has signed a letter of intent with specialist LPG and petrochemicals shipping company Solvang ASA for the installation and retrofitting of full-scale CCS systems on its VLGC fleet, Seatrium announced on Thursday.
The initiative targets Solvang’s new series of VLGCs, which are designed to incorporate CCS capabilities. With work expected to start in late 2026, the vessels are Seatrium’s first candidates for full-scale CCS retrofit and integration.
The agreement was formalised at Nor-Shipping 2025 in Oslo and builds on a long collaboration between the companies. In February 2025, Seatrium provided turnkey EPC services for the CCS system in Solvang’s semi-refrigerated ethylene carrier Clipper Eris, the world’s first turnkey retrofit of a 7-MW CCS system.
“Building on the success of the pioneer project on Clipper Eris, we are honoured by Solvang’s trust in Seatrium to take the next step in their critical CCS programme. This remarkable step will deepen our resolve as strategic partners in supporting maritime decarbonisation efforts,” said Alvin Gan, executive vice-president of Seatrium Repairs and Upgrades.
Solvang fleet director Tor Ask added, “Seatrium’s proven capabilities give us full confidence that this collaboration will bring tremendous value. Both organisations are aligned in delivering greener, energy-efficient maritime solutions for a lower-carbon future.”
Seatrium provides integrated EPC solutions to the offshore, marine and energy industries from a global network of shipyards and engineering centres. The company notes it has delivered more than 584 sustainability-linked maritime solutions since 2015.
