The Quiluma and Maboqueiro offshore platforms for the New Gas Consortium (NGC) project in Angola have been completed, consortium partner Azule Energy announced on Tuesday.
The NGC is a USD 2.4-billion project and Angola’s first-ever non-associated gas development. Its partners include Azule Energy, a JV between Eni and BP; Sonangol E&P; Chevron; and TotalEnergies. The development is situated in Angola’s shallow-water offshore and is expected to produce 9.35 mcm [330.4 mcf] of gas per day once fully online.
No lost-time injuries were experienced during the construction of the two platforms despite them requiring 2.5 million man-hours to complete.
Alister Forder, chief operating officer of Azule Energy, said, “Today’s milestone is a reflection of the collaborative spirit, technical expertise and dedication of all partners involved in the NGC project. As we prepare for NGC first gas, this project reaffirms our commitment to unlocking Angola’s energy potential and contributing to a sustainable energy future.”
The NGC is a landmark project in Angola’s diversification strategy and its efforts to develop its local economy and gas value chain. The project’s completion is expected by 2026.
