Oil workers demand probe of plot against Dangote refinery

The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN have called on President Bola Tinubu to initiate an investigation into allegations that International Oil Companies are plotting to undermine the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals.In a letter addressed to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, the unions emphasised the need for transparency and public trust, by making findings of the investigation public.

In the letter, signed by the General Secretary of NUPENG, Afolabi Olawale, and that of PENGASSAN, Lumumba Okugbawa, the unions expressed concern over the accusations and reiterated their support for the President’s economic initiatives. The oil workers recalled their long-standing advocacy for local oil refining and made some demands from the Federal Government.

These are, immediate investigation by establishing an independent panel to probe claims of sabotage by International Oil Companies and ensuring a comprehensive and transparent process. Public Disclosure by making the findings of the investigation public to maintain transparency and public trust. The need for legal action, if the allegations are proven and decisive action taken against the entities involved, including sanctions and penalties. The last is support for Dangote Refinery by ensuring commencement and operation of the refinery, including provision of security and stability measures.
