NextDecade Corporation has signed a framework agreement with Baker Hughes to use its gas turbine and refrigerant compressor technology for Train 4 through Train 8 at the Rio Grande LNG facility, the companies announced on Tuesday.
Under the agreement, Baker Hughes will also provide maintenance work on the equipment packages. The value of the contract was not disclosed.
“Baker Hughes is proud to continue our long-standing relationship with NextDecade, providing advanced gas technology solutions that enhance the efficiency and reliability of their LNG operations. This agreement is a further example of our commitment to delivering innovative solutions in support of increasing energy demand,” said Lorenzo Simonelli, chairman and CEO of Baker Hughes.
NextDecade’s FIDs on Train 4 and Train 5 are subject to finalising EPC contracts, entering into appropriate commercial arrangements and obtaining adequate financing. Rio Grande LNG’s first three liquefaction trains are under construction and NextDecade is currently beginning the permitting process for Train 6 through Train 8.
Located near Brownsville, Texas, Rio Grande LNG has 48 million tonnes per year (tpy) of liquefaction capacity currently under construction or in development and will incorporate a proposed CCS project with the capacity to store more than 5 million tpy of carbon dioxide.
