Masdar inks floating solar agreements in Indonesia

Masdar has signed agreements with PT PLN, Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company, to develop two floating solar projects in West Java, Indonesia, Masdar announced on Friday.

The companies signed an MoU to develop a greenfield floating solar power plant at the Jatigede Dam reservoir and a preliminary agreement to expand Masdar’s 145-MW Cirata Floating Photovoltaic (FPV) plant, which has been operational since November 2023.

Construction of the Jatigede project will begin in the coming months, with completion expected in 2027. Cirata is currently producing enough renewable energy to power 50,000 households and displacing 214,000 tonnes per year of carbon dioxide emissions, according to Masdar.

“The Jatigede project will be a strong addition to our collaboration with PLN and its development, along with the expansion of our already record-breaking Cirata project, will enable us to build on our expertise in developing floating solar projects,” said Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar.

Indonesia aims to add more than 75 GW of renewable energy capacity to the national generation mix in the next 15 years.
