Masar Petroleum unveils Oman discovery

Masar Petroleum has made a hydrocarbons discovery in the Hasirah Ridge in Oman’s Block 7, the company announced on Tuesday.

Masar Petroleum said an exploratory well drilled due south of previous finds on the block proved successful, with the company estimating the discovery could unlock between 100 million and 380 million barrels in resources.

Masar Petroleum has 2D seismic coverage of the Hasirah Ridge, and the company is planning a 3D seismic survey and an appraisal programme to advance development of the new resources by end-2028.

“Masar is a proud Omani E&P company that has delivered significant value through a continuous and focused effort on unlocking our potential,” said Masar Petroleum CEO Abdulsattar Al Murshidi.

Block 7, also known as Abu Al Tubool, covers approximately 2,331 square kilometres in central Oman, on the border with Saudi Arabia. It contains the Ramlat, Rija and Sahmah producing fields, which yield light oil.

The block’s infrastructure includes well testing facilities, a gas compression station and oil storage capacity for up to 11,000 barrels. Facilities are connected to the main PDO oil pipeline to transport output to Mina Al Fahar port for export.
