‘Jordan prepared for any sudden disruption in gas supply’: Energy Minister

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, stated that Jordan possesses a secure strategic reserve of gas sufficient for about 60 days and is “prepared for any sudden disruption in gas supply.” During a meeting held Sunday by the Parliamentary Energy Committee with the Ministry of Energy to assess the status of oil reserves and stages of oil and gas exploration in Jordan, Al-Kharabsheh stated that the government is making significant efforts to explore energy alternatives to prevent any unexpected disruptions, given the current regional circumstances.

Within less than two years, the ministry has signed around 14 Memoranda of understanding (MoU) with local and foreign companies working in the fields of oil and gas exploration. Al-Kharabsheh emphasized the success of government efforts to diversify sources of imported energy, as a result of the energy sector’s strategy that relies on ensuring energy security in all its forms. Regarding the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, Al-Kharabsheh mentioned that there is no intention to lease a new unit for gas storage when the current unit’s contract expires. Instead, in the near future, there will be a public tender to receive offers for establishing a fixed storage facility on the shore. Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi had previously announced that Jordan would not sign the energy and water exchange agreement with the Israeli Occupation. He stated that Jordan is doing its utmost efforts to help the Palestinian people, and the country is leveraging its relationships to call for an end to the aggression.
