Greater Tortue Ahmeyim FLNG reaches contract milestone

Golar LNG’s FLNG Gimi vessel has reached the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of its 20-year contract for BP‘s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project offshore Mauritania and Senegal, Golar announced on Monday.

The vessel’s LNG production has achieved a level equivalent to the contract volume of approximately 2.4 million tonnes per year (tpy), triggering the official start of its 20-year lease and operation agreement with BP, GTA’s operator.

Golar noted that the income stream from the agreement will add approximately USD 3 billion of adjusted EBITDA backlog.

The COD follows the achievement of first gas in January 2025, first LNG in February and the lifting of the project’s first LNG cargo in April. Two more cargoes were exported in May and June, and a fourth is currently loading, according to a separate announcement by GTA project partner Kosmos Energy. A fifth cargo is expected to load in Q3 2025.

GTA is located in a newly tapped basin offshore Mauritania and Senegal and has been described by BP as “one of the deepest, most complex gas developments in Africa,” due to its location in water depths of up to 2,850 metres. It is operated by BP with Kosmos Energy and the state-owned oil companies of Mauritania and Senegal, SMH and PETROSEN, as project partners.

FLNG Gimi was constructed at the COSCO Qidong Shipyard in China with a nameplate production capacity of 2.7 million tpy. The vessel reached its destination on the maritime border between Mauritania and Senegal in June 2024.
