ExxonMobil has selected Worley to provide EPC services for its planned low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia facility in Baytown, Texas, Worley announced on Monday.
The contract scope covers enabling works, infrastructure and interconnection with existing facilities at ExxonMobil’s adjacent chemicals and refining complex. Worley noted that the contract is subject to ExxonMobil’s FID, regulatory permits and “supportive government policy.”
“We are delighted to continue our strategic, global relationship with ExxonMobil in its execution of upcoming projects, particularly in delivering this EPC project on the US Gulf Coast, which contributes significantly to strengthening Worley’s backlog,” said Chris Ashton, CEO of Worley.
ExxonMobil’s planned facility is expected to be the world’s largest of its kind upon startup. Using US-produced natural gas, it will be capable of producing up to 28.3 mcm (1 bcf) per day of low-carbon hydrogen. ExxonMobil says it aims to grow a low-carbon hydrogen market along the US Gulf Coast to help industrial customers achieve their decarbonisation goals.
In June 2024, ExxonMobil signed Air Liquide to build, own and operate four large modular air separation units and related infrastructure to supply the facility with up to 9,000 tonnes of oxygen and 6,500 tonnes of nitrogen per day for the production of hydrogen.
