ExxonMobil selects Shearwater for new Guyana survey

Shearwater GeoServices has been awarded a contract by ExxonMobil Guyana to conduct a deepwater 4D ocean bottom node (OBN) reservoir surveillance programme offshore Guyana, Shearwater announced on Monday.

The survey will start in H1 2025 and is expected to last six months. Per Shearwater’s announcement, the field unit will comprise a Shearwater seismic vessel as a source vessel and a dual ROV vessel for node deployment.

“Shearwater is pleased to be selected for this significant 4D OBN contract in one of the world’s fastest-growing offshore oil and gas regions. We see a steady increase in deepwater 4D OBN monitoring activity internationally, and Shearwater is well positioned for this growth,” said Irene Waage Basili, CEO of Shearwater.

ExxonMobil recently announced plans for large-scale gas developments in Guyana, including significantly increasing gas production from non-associated offshore gas projects such as Longtail in the prolific Starbroek Block.

The value of the contract was not disclosed in the announcement, but Shearwater described the award as “large.”
