Equinor has been awarded stakes in 27 production licences on the Norwegian continental shelf, the company said on Tuesday.
The Stavanger-headquartered company said it would operate seven of the licences and serve as a partner in 20.
The blocks were awarded by Norway’s Ministry of Energy. Equinor did not specify the company or companies it would partner with.
Jez Averty, Equinor’s senior vice-president for subsurface, Norwegian continental shelf, commented on the licence awards.
“There are still substantial resources on the Norwegian continental shelf. Together with our partners, we need to explore more to contribute to European energy security and maintain our position as a reliable supplier of oil and gas,” he said.
Averty went on to discuss the company’s upstream strategy, highlighting its focus on developing plays in areas adjacent to existing infrastructure.
Saying the company already has a portfolio of smaller discoveries in proximity to existing infrastructure, Averty cited the Eirin field, which will be tied back to the Gina Krog platform.
