Eni adds new exploration block to Côte d’Ivoire portfolio

Eni has signed an exploration contract with Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Renewable Energies for the CI-707 offshore block in the Abidjan basin, the company announced on Wednesday.

The CI-707 block covers around 2,926 square kilometres in water depths ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 metres and is adjacent to block CI-205, where Eni made the Calao discovery in March 2024. The geological continuity between the two areas presents opportunities for synergistic development.

The stipulated duration of the exploration phase is nine years. With the addition of CI-707, the company now holds interests in 11 offshore blocks in the country.

Eni currently produces more than 62,000 bopd and 2.1 mcm (75 mcf) of gas per day in Côte d’Ivoire’s giant Baleine field, with plans to raise output to 150,000 barrels and 5.7 mcm (200 mcf), respectively, under a third phase of development.

The company recently completed the sale of a 30% stake in the Baleine project to commodity trading firm Vitol, along with a 25% participating interest in the Congo LNG project in the Republic of Congo, in a package deal worth USD 1.65 billion.
