The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries has confirmed that representatives from several energy sector stakeholder groups continue to provide hands-on expertise to remediate the hydrocarbon discharge off the coast of Cove, Tobago. A release from the ministry on Wednesday noted that responders from Heritage Petroleum Limited have been responding to the clean-up of the affected mangroves and river systems including areas around Lambeau Bridge 1 and Thompson River. “The response teams attached to Heritage Petroleum Limited have delivered training to local workers on spill response techniques and equipment with an emphasis on responder safety,” the release noted.
The ministry said further it has also mobilised marine assets of the National Energy Company to aid in the recovery of hydrocarbons utilizing the NOFI Current Buster Technology. “This system will be utilized in a nearshore tactic utilizing a standard two-vessel configuration. Additionally, NOFI INAK systems will be engaged for a single vessel sweep tactic offshore, this allows for the use of one tow vessel providing a more efficient operation overall,” the release said. Additionally, the release noted that the Trinidad and Tobago Air Guard has also been facilitating aerial surveillance for the response.
