Peninsula Pipeline Company (PPC), a subsidiary of Chesapeake Utilities, will develop, construct and operate a USD 1.2-billion natural gas pipeline in southern Florida to expand its transportation capacity in the state, Chesapeake announced on Monday.
The Florida Energy Pathway will be a 24-inch natural gas pipeline extending from Palm Beach County to Miami-Dade County. It is anchored by approximately 7 mcm (247 mcf) per day of firm shipping commitments, with PPC aiming to secure additional volumes.
Chesapeake Utilities expects the project to enter service in 2030 and plans to partner with one or more third parties that could own up to 49% of the project.
“Florida continues to lead the nation in population and economic growth, which drives increasing energy demand. Natural gas infrastructure expansions, including the Florida Energy Pathway project, play an important role in enabling regional growth, increasing natural gas capacity and supporting long-term energy independence,” said Chesapeake Utilities CEO Jeff Householder.
Chesapeake Utilities is a US energy delivery company providing natural gas distribution, transmission and energy services. Through its regulated and unregulated businesses, the company invests in gas infrastructure to support residential, commercial and industrial customers.
