“Prospect I is one of the largest mapped structures in the Damara Fold Belt, is well imaged from 2D seismic, and demonstrates a four-way dip closure in which we expect to penetrate over 1,500 meters of Otavi reservoir. Drilling at the Prospect I location has been significantly derisked by the results of our first Damara Fold Belt well, Naingopo, which encountered reservoir in the Otavi carbonates, hydrocarbon shows and oil to surface. We are excited to drill this follow-on exploration well as we continue to look to unlock the significant hydrocarbon potential of the Damara Fold Belt.”
Despite the growing emphasis on natural gas with international majors exploring and putting online gas projects and LNG export facilities around Africa, projections indicate that liquid hydrocarbons will still hold the lion’s share of capex, attracting 60% of the total investment through 2030. But natural gas is gradually gaining ground and its share of annual expenditure is set to increase from around 30% in 2023 to more than 40% by the end of the decade, the African Energy Chamber’s report says.
Under the 2015 Paris Agreement, hundreds of countries pledged to hold global temperatures to below 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels. Since then, governments and companies – including in Africa – have faced increased pressure to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels.
“Ghana continues to be the cornerstone of our operations. During the year, operational efficiency remained high with average facility uptime across the FPSOs averaging 97% and a combined average production rate of c.44.1 kbopd net. Five new Jubilee wells (three producers and two water injectors) were brought onstream during the first half of 2024, completing the Ghana drilling programme safely, and approximately six months ahead of schedule”, it said.

Vitol will acquire interests in certain assets owned by Eni, including including the Baleine project in Cote d’Ivoire and Congo LNG project in the Republic of Congo, for $1.65 billion.
As part of the scheduled works, critical repairs and upgrades will be carried out on the Kwame Nkrumah FPSO (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading) vessel. Key activities will include retooling essential equipment, conducting leak tests, and upgrading facilities to accommodate increased gas export capacity.
At the handing over ceremony, the Senior Vice-President and Head of Ghana Business Unit of Kosmos Energy Ghana, Mr. Joe Mensah recalled that prior to the current project, there was a donation of 3200 student mono-desks to four Senior High Schools – Savelugu SHS, Ningo SHS, Prampram SHS, and Tsiame SHS in the Northern, Greater Accra and Volta regions respectively.
“This transaction is in line with Eni’s strategy aimed at optimizing upstream activities, through a rebalancing of the portfolio that provides for the early valorization of exploration discoveries through a reduction of participations in them (the so-called dual exploration model)”, Italy’s state-backed Eni said in an online statement Wednesday.
Trump lashed out at remarks made by Putin, who questioned the legitimacy of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s government and suggested that a change in leadership may be necessary for a peace deal to be valid.
