Algeria and Mozambique sign MoU for oil and gas co-operation

Algeria’s and Mozambique’s national energy companies, Sonatrach and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), have signed an MoU to promote collaborations in oil and gas developments in Mozambique, the companies announced on Thursday.

The agreement lays out areas of common interest in hydrocarbons exploration and production, with extensions for transportation, downstream activities and the provision of associated services along the energy value chain.

Through the agreement, ENH will benefit from knowledge transfer in the fields of oil geology, engineering and operations through training courses organised by Sonatrach. In the downstream sector, the companies will contemplate projects such as the connection of Mozambique’s natural gas transportation infrastructure to domestic distribution networks for household consumption.

The MoU was signed in Maputo by Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi and ENH chairwoman Ludovina Bernardo in the presence of Algeria’s Minister of Energy, Mourad Adjal. The agreement supports Sonatrach’s strategy to expand its footprint in Africa and deepen Algeria-Mozambique energy ties.
