Aker BP is taking a major step forward in its digital transformation by expanding the use of Cognite Atlas AI™, deepening its strategic partnership with Cognite to drive an “AI-first” approach in exploration and production.
The initiative positions Aker BP at the forefront of industrial AI adoption in the oil and gas sector, with agent-based AI applications designed to streamline workflows, reduce costs, and improve decision-making across operations.
“Our collaboration with Cognite on Atlas AI represents a significant leap forward in our digital transformation journey,” said Paula Doyle, Chief Digital Officer at Aker BP. “This partnership underscores our commitment to a continued AI-first, data-driven approach, embracing agentic AI to further drive efficiency, enhance decision-making, and optimize our operations across the board.”
Cognite Atlas AI delivers pre-built agents and a low-code workbench for developing customized industrial AI solutions, all supported by Cognite Data Fusion®. Current applications include automating document processing, proactive barrier management, and equipment registration—initiatives that Aker BP says could save thousands of engineering hours. The company is also advancing predictive maintenance, optimizing production chemistry, and deploying AI agents for root cause analysis (RCA), which have cut engineering time by more than 70%.
“What we needed was contextualized intelligence,” said Tor Arne Amdal, Senior Reliability Engineer at Aker BP. “It’s not enough to just have data—you need the right data, in the right context, at the right time. Cognite delivered that capability, and it’s transforming how we execute RCA workflows.”
Cognite executives noted that the partnership highlights Aker BP’s leadership in integrating AI into upstream operations. “By merging Aker BP’s deep industry expertise with Cognite’s Atlas AI, we’re equipping their workforce with the tools to scale AI across the business and fundamentally reshape operations,” said Francois Laborie, EVP, Strategic Projects at Cognite.
Aker BP and Cognite will present further details on their AI-driven initiatives at Cognite’s Industrial AI and Data Conference, Impact 2025.
