Angola has welcomed the Agogo FPSO, a game-changing facility for the country’s oil output and the world’s first such vessel fitted with a post-combustion CCS unit.
The news was announced by the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) on Friday.
Operated by Yinson Production under a 15-year firm charter with Azule Energy, with an option to extend for another five years, the Agogo FPSO is positioned at the Agogo Integrated West Hub Development in Block 15/06. It is expected to increase the block’s production by 120,000 bopd.
The vessel features advanced technologies, including a combined-cycle power generation unit, advanced electrification and digital automation, a seawater-driven turbine generator and a vapour recovery unit to eliminate flaring. Notably, it incorporates the industry’s first pilot post-combustion carbon-capture system on an FPSO, which aims to reduce carbon emissions by up to 27%.
“The arrival of the FPSO Agogo in Angola is of significant value, as it represents the completion of the project, the first modules of which were installed last year, ” ANPG president Paulino Jerónimo said.
“There were several challenging stages throughout the project, but it is also a demonstration of the right partnerships and the determination of our human capital. In terms of local content, part of the structure was manufactured in our country’s shipyards.”
The Agogo FPSO will work alongside the operational Ngoma FPSO to monetise hydrocarbons from the Agogo and Ndungu fields in Block 15/06. The project partners include Azule Energy as operator, Angola’s national oil company Sonangol E&P and Chinese oil and gas firm Sinopec.
