ADNOC Drilling picks up Abu Dhabi rig contract

ADNOC Drilling has been awarded a contract by ADNOC Offshore to supply three island rigs for deployment in the offshore Zakum oilfield in Abu Dhabi, the drilling contractor announced on Wednesday.

The contract is valued at an estimated USD 733 million and brings ADNOC Drilling’s fleet to 148, including these three new rigs and three previously contracted rigs for the initial phase of the unconventional development at Zakum.

The three new island rigs will be constructed by Honghua Group and will be utilised for the drilling and completion of wells on existing and newly constructed artificial islands at the field. Delivery and commencement of operations are expected in 2026.

“ADNOC Drilling is honoured to receive this substantial award, which marks a significant milestone in our company’s accelerated growth journey. These new island rigs will be the most advanced in the world, embracing artificial intelligence, the most transformative technology of our generation,” said Abdulrahman Abdulla Al Seiari, CEO of ADNOC Drilling.

Zakum’s artificial islands offer favourable conditions for extended-reach drilling, with the top five longest wells in the world having been drilled at this location.
