Halliburton, Petrobras complete first ROCS deployment offshore Brazil

Halliburton service, has completed the first deployment of its Remote Operated Control System (ROCS) in Brazil, working with Petrobras. Petrobras used the system to install a subsea smart completion on a deepwater well.

ROCS does away with the traditional control umbilicals used during completion operations. That cuts the amount of equipment needed offshore and simplifies execution. Halliburton and Petrobras worked together on planning, system integration, testing and offshore execution.

“As operators develop increasingly complex deepwater resources, they seek technologies that simplify operations and improve execution efficiency,” said Timothy Horsfall, Halliburton’s vice president for testing and subsea. “This project demonstrates how ROCS can reduce offshore complexity and provide a practical approach to subsea completion operations.”

Halliburton said the project sets the stage for more ROCS applications worldwide.
