Egypt launches 14-block oil and gas bid rounds

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has launched two international bid rounds offering 14 onshore and offshore blocks for oil and natural gas exploration as the country seeks to attract upstream investment, the ministry announced on Tuesday.

The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) is offering six blocks, with bids closing on November 11, 2026, while the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) is offering eight blocks under a separate round closing on December 14, 2026. The rounds are intended to expand exploration across Egypt’s geological basins and support development of the country’s oil and gas resources.

The offerings are being handled through Egypt Upstream Gateway, the country’s digital platform for international bid rounds, which provides investors with access to upstream data and exploration opportunities.

With this latest bid round, Egypt seeks to build on efforts to accelerate upstream activity and bring additional exploration acreage to market. EGAS executive managing director Sayed Selim had announced in March 2026 that the company was planning to offer several areas in the Western Mediterranean. The company is also planning to drill 17 exploratory wells.

EGPC and EGAS are state entities operating under Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and play central roles in the country’s oil and natural gas sectors.
