SLB has signed a strategic agreement with Shell to co-develop AI and digital solutions targeting performance gains in US upstream operations, the company said on Thursday.
The initiative will focus on agentic AI-powered tools integrated into SLB’s Lumi platform to unify data and workflows across subsurface, well construction and production in a secure digital ecosystem. It builds on previous collaborations, including the global deployment of SLB’s Petrel software across Shell’s assets to support standardisation and digital transformation.
“The energy industry is being reshaped by digital and AI,” SLB digital business president Rakesh Jaggi said. “Working with industry leaders like Shell enables us to accelerate development of advanced digital and agentic AI solutions.”
SLB, headquartered in Houston, is a global provider of technology and services to the energy industry, specialising in reservoir characterisation, drilling, production and processing. It operates in more than 120 countries.
Shell, headquartered in the UK, is active in the US upstream sector through shale oil and gas developments and deepwater operations, and is increasingly investing in digitalisation and AI to optimise asset performance.
