BP brings seventh major 2025 project on line with US offshore expansion

BP has started production from the Atlantis Drill Center 1 expansion in the US offshore, marking its seventh major upstream startup of 2025, the company said on Thursday.

The two-well subsea tieback is expected to add 15,000 boepd in gross peak output to the Atlantis platform. First oil was delivered two months ahead of schedule, making it BP’s fifth early startup this year.

The Atlantis platform, one of BP’s longest-running deepwater assets, has a production capacity of up to 200,000 bopd. The new tieback extends the field’s footprint and utilises existing subsea infrastructure.

“This latest success demonstrates the dedication of our US project team and our teams around the world, who are delivering new barrels at pace and with lower production costs,” BP executive vice-president of production and operations Gordon Birrell said.

BP plans to deliver 10 major projects globally by 2027, with new US offshore developments expected to boost its regional capacity to more than 400,000 boepd by 2030.

BP operates the Atlantis platform with a 56% stake, while co-owner Woodside Energy holds 44%.

BP is a leading deepwater operator offshore the USA, managing five production platforms and holding interests in four additional hubs. It aims to grow US production to around 1 million boepd by 2030.
